Let me start by saying that this post will not have any pictures even though I REALLY wanted to take some...it would be highly illegal and Eric could lose his job so I will just tell you about one of my favorite parts of our night away from home.
Yesterday, we went to Rochester to the Museum of Play (Pics and post to come soon!) After the day there we decided that we would drive back to Eric's prison. He has been a Corrections Officer for almost 6 years and I have never seen where he works! He drove us to the area of his prison and I thought that we would just be able to see the front of the building and then leave...but as we pulled up he pulled out his cell phone and asked the Sargent on duty for permission to drive the perimeter of the prison and permission was granted. We were followed by a CO in a perimeter truck (There are certain CO's that drive around for their entire shift around the outside of the jail.) It was AMAZING!! and looks nothing like you would see on Lock-Up; Extended Stay! We could see inmates in the rec pens (Little 5x10 fenced in areas off the back of the cells) The main yard was HUMONGOUS and has me a little worried about Eric when he is out there!
It was a pretty neat experience and now when he comes home and talks about things (on the outside of the prison) I can picture what he is talking about! This reaffirmed for me that I COULD NEVER BE A CORRECTIONS OFFICER! and that I am SO PROUD OF ERIC for the job he does!

It's a different world, isn't it? We took a group of 'at risk' kids to the Gouverneur correctional facility and got to talk to prisoners, walk around inside the prison, see the crazies in their little boxes screaming like monkeys in a cage, go inside the mess hall and see where they sleep, etc.. Makes you appreciate the life you have. I appreciate the work Eric does!
Ashley..I too took a guided tour in HS of Cape Vincent and Eric's prision is the newest in NY so it is very different than what I remembered!
Did you get a chance to see any of the white deer?
Oh yeah Amy I forgot to mention those! They are pretty neat!
Can I go? Can I go? I'm addicted to that show and I love hearing about that stuff. What a cool experience!
